Less Time in the Treatment Chair

If your schedule is jam-packed due to work, school, or being a parent, you’ll be happy to hear that there aren’t monthly adjustment appointments with Invisalign. Instead, the progress visits are usually every 6-8 weeks. Plus, if you’re on track with your treatment plan, then you’ll likely be in and out of our office in 30 minutes or less.

Wearing Your Trays

Each set of aligners must be worn at least twenty hours each day to prevent the teeth from shifting back toward their original positions, and neglecting to wear your aligners sufficiently can lead to frustrating and potentially costly treatment setbacks. Ideally, you’ll only remove your aligners for oral hygiene sessions and when eating or drinking anything but liquid water. You will be instructed to switch to the next set of aligners in your sequence every few weeks.

Cleaning Your Aligners

Take care to only use cool or lukewarm water when cleaning your Invisalign aligners to prevent them from warping and losing their fit. It’s important to thoroughly rinse your aligners each time before placing them in your mouth, and you must also soak them for at least thirty minutes a day in Invisalign cleaning crystals. You can also clean your aligners using a soft-bristled brush and clear hand soap. It’s also crucial to thoroughly brush and floss each time before wearing your aligners.

Eating & Drinking

While Invisalign allows patients to eat and drink whatever they like during treatment, you should only consume items other than liquid water when not wearing your aligners. When you remove your aligners for meals, beverages, or snacks, be sure to store them in a protective case to prevent them from being damaged or thrown out. Eating or drinking when wearing your Invisalign aligners can also allow sugary residues to accumulate underneath them, which can lead to tooth decay, stains, and oral infections.

Losing or Damaging a Tray

It’s important to contact our office as soon as you notice that your Invisalign tray is damaged or missing so we can determine an appropriate solution to the problem. We may recommend simply switching to the next aligner in the sequence or reverting to the previous one while a new appliance is being manufactured. Invisalign trays are most commonly lost or destroyed due to not being placed in protective containers during meals, so be sure to store your aligners appropriately when not wearing them.

Routine Check-ins

Invisalign check-in appointments are typically scheduled every four to eight weeks, and they usually last about fifteen minutes or so. These visits mostly serve to allow the team at Nexus Dental of Lewisville to make sure your realignment process is on track and provide you with new aligners when necessary.

Factors That Affect the Cost of Invisalign

Invisalign vs. Mail-In Aligners: Which Costs More?

True enough, Invisalign does have a higher upfront cost than mail-in aligners. The entire procedure can range from $3,000 to $8,000 – a higher price than the second option’s $2,000. That fact could make you view mail-in aligners as the better investment.

All that said, don’t forget: mail-in aligners are a do-it-yourself project. These trays don’t get input from a dentist’s expertise and oversight.
