Who is a Good Candidate for Dentures?

Tooth loss can negatively affect your life in a wide range of ways such as making eating difficult, causing speech issues, depriving the jawbone of the exercise it needs to stay healthy, and diminishing your confidence in your appearance. While dentures are often an excellent solution to extensive tooth loss, another treatment such as a bridge or dental implant may be better if you are only missing one tooth. While you’ll need healthy gums to support your dentures, we’ll be happy to help you clear up any gum disease with periodontal therapy.
Types of Dentures

The best type of denture for you depends on how many teeth you are missing, your preferences, and your budget. During your consultation, Dr. Jayswal will thoroughly discuss these matters with you before recommending the appropriate restoration.
Partial Dentures
Having large gaps in your smile can leave your gums vulnerable to injuries and may even cause your teeth to drift out of alignment due to the gradual atrophy of the jawbone. Partial dentures typically consist of an acrylic base and several artificial teeth made from ceramic, and they often incorporate metal clips that connect with your remaining teeth to create a secure hold within the moth.
Full Dentures
Full dentures are extremely similar to partial dentures except they are bigger and designed to replace a full arch of missing teeth. Since these appliances are held in place with natural suction, they usually do not incorporate metal clips. Each set of full dentures from our office is customized to fit each patient perfectly for maximum comfort.
Implant Dentures
Securing your denture with dental implants is the best way to ensure that your appliance has the sturdy foundation it needs for comfort, thorough chewing, and easy speech. These devices allow you to eat anything you could with a mouth full of natural teeth, and they can be a great solution for those who are frustrated with their traditional dentures.

Understanding the Cost of Dentures

At Nexus Dental of Lewisville, we believe everyone deserves a confident, functional smile without financial stress. Dentures are a life-changing investment, but the cost can vary based on your needs. Whether you’re exploring full, partial, or implanted prosthetics, we’re here to walk you through your options and help you plan for your care. Read more below to learn more about the cost of dentures and how we can make them more affordable for you.
Factors that Affect the Cost of Dentures

Several factors can influence the final cost of your dentures. These include:
- Type of dentures (full, partial, implanted)
- Materials used for the base and artificial teeth
- Need for tooth extractions or preparatory treatments
- Lab fees and customization requirements
- Number of follow-up visits for adjustments
At our Lewisville dental practice, we provide detailed cost breakdowns upfront and explain each step of the process, so there are no surprises. Our team is committed to helping you make informed, confident decisions about your care, regardless of your financial situation.
Are Implant Dentures More Expensive?

Yes, implant dentures typically cost more than traditional options, but they offer added stability, comfort, and longevity. Implant dentures are also different from traditional models because they require some minor oral surgery. This involves placing titanium posts into your jawbone, which naturally raises the total cost.
However, many patients find the added investment worthwhile thanks to benefits like:
- A more secure fit
- Easier eating and speaking
- Reduced bone loss in their jaw
If you're concerned about the extra up-front cost, you’re not alone. But if it makes sense for your lifestyle and your budget, implant dentures are an incredible permanent solution for tooth loss.
Does Dental Insurance Cover Dentures?

Many dental insurance plans provide at least partial coverage for dentures, but details can vary from plan to plan, so you should always check. At Nexus Dental of Lewisville, we’re in-network with many prominent PPO dental insurance providers and will work with you to maximize your benefits.
Our team can file your claims, explain your coverage, and walk you through what to expect financially so you’re never left guessing.

Denture FAQs
What Should You Do if Your Dentures Break?
If your dentures break, do NOT try to use a household adhesive, like superglue, to try and repair them. After all, the toxins they contain are not safe to ingest and can negatively affect the fit of your restoration, ultimately leaving you in a worse position. That’s why we recommend calling our Lewisville dental team, even if the damage is relatively minor. The sooner you do, the sooner Dr. Jayswal can take a look and determine if it can be repaired or if it needs to be replaced.
Should I Have All My Teeth Pulled to Get Dentures?
You shouldn’t have healthy teeth removed simply to make room for dentures. You should, however, have severely damaged or decayed ones extracted beforehand. Then, after you’ve healed, we will take the necessary impressions and get to work on creating your custom restoration!
Can I Sleep with My Dentures?
Technically, you can sleep with your dentures. However, there are several reasons patients are encouraged not to make this a habit. To start, keeping your restoration on can restrict circulation, increasing your risk of soft tissue irritation and mouth sores. Sleeping with them on has also been linked to a higher risk of pneumonia as well as gum and tongue plaque. So, for the sake of your oral and overall health, take them out and place them in a glass of water before you go to bed.
Am I Too Young to Get Dentures?
Tooth loss is common among older patients, but that doesn’t mean dentures are only for seniors. Quite the opposite; they are also a great option for the 33% of patients between the ages of 20 and 39 who are missing at least one tooth. So, if you are ready to have a complete and healthy smile again, don’t let your age stop you from scheduling a consultation with us.
Is It Hard to Talk with Dentures?
Dentures today don’t just look real; they feel real too. So, you don’t have to worry – you won’t have a bulky restoration that makes day-to-day life difficult. In fact, after the initial adjustment period, you will see just how positive of an impact they can have on every aspect of your life, including your diet and your relationships.
Tip: The best way to speed up the adjustment period is to practice! Reading a book, a magazine, or even the back of your shampoo bottle out loud will help you get familiar with the proper tongue placement. Then, when you’re ready, practice with a trusted friend or family member. Before you know it, you’ll be back to your usual sound and cadence.
